Master Educator Outcome 3

Implements a cycle of quantitative and qualitative research that leads to improved student achievement.

This artifact was created for DMET 510, a course within ESU's approved plan of study. The artifact represents my competency in using qualitative and quantitative research to inform my planning. For this project, I reflected on my experience as an online educator, then developed lessons to improve areas of weakness within my student population. Vocabulary acquisition is hard in the best of times, but 2020 falls firmly into the category of "the worst of times", and I knew that helping students acquire and practice new words would be a challenge. In reflecting on this artifact, I see an educator who is coping with one of the most significant events in American (and global) education in recent history. COVID19 made online educators out of us all, whether we liked it or not, and I see in this artifact my desire to overcome that challenge. However, I also see areas of weakness. I default to humor and irreverence in times of crisis, and that comes through in portions of this project. However, rather than hiding from that, I relish the opportunity to present it. Learning from one's past is a form of qualitative research in itself, and, despite the passages in which my sparkling personality shows through, this project demonstrates my ability to improve student acheivment.
